A Family Finder Project uses DNA to trace descendants of a single ancestor or ancestral couple. Family Finder Projects help find and show the genetic links between descendants of one couple. Ideally, a Family Finder Project will be based on a couple four to seven generations in the past.

Autosomal DNA results and traditional genealogy research are the main tools of Family Finder Projects. They also use other types of DNA as needed.
